I wish I had a printer, so that I could make 100 copies of your essay and pass them out to every white person I see until I run out.

I've never actually seen formal writing of your's. I'm impressed--I strive to be that articulate. And I was waiting for you to mention Spencer's social darwinism in the first paragraph! ("while implying that the inability to achieve such success is the deserved consequence of laziness and ineptitude") in reference to that part. Also, the parts about reverse racism seem especially applicable with the Supreme Court's latest ruling. I was surprised you didn't mention the supreme court case with Allen Bakke and the University of California from the 60's--I think that was his name. It was the first one to make a ruling about affirmative action/reverse racism.

"Because America's social-political system has never been controlled by people of color, people of color have never had the opportunity nor the capacity to create widely believed and accepted humiliating and debasing terms which enforce false ideas about the subhuman nature of white people."

I hadn't ever thought of that. You're right.

And hey, I just got a new bathing suit, too.

yay for new bathing suits!
yeah, i'm sort of stunned about the recent court ruling. i'm glad you found my essay to be articulate. i really like formal essay writing so i strive towards a goal of super awesomeness that i hope to achieve one day.
i never understood why people find essay writing to be so awful. i love it.

If I were going to write in any medium professionally it would definitely be essays. They're long enough to get out what you have to say but short enough to be succinct.

while i'm certain i've reaped the benefits of white privilege (i don't get shot when i run from the cops) it's hard to reconcile the feeling of "wow, i'm pretty much a card carrying member of the man" with "well shit, my family showed up here like sixty years ago."

i realize that simply by being white and middle class i perpetuate a lot of the systematic racism that exists, but i also feel weird because most of my family was busy being ethnically cleansed while white people were still sitting at the front of the bus. my great grandmother still speaks more yid and ukrainian than english.

but the question that was all prefacing was: what would you suggest someone who is clearly a very white white dude do to try and not be a part of this big ol machine running on mayonnaise and fear? i don't like the idea of subscribing to the massive fuckup that is white people's attitudes toward black people, but at the same time i can't help but feel a little removed from white folks that have been here encouraging this shit since ben franklin was chilling in thunderstorms with a kite.

well, like i said there is passive acceptance of your white privilege and there are more aggressive forms of racism. it's super easy to point at the dude with the hood on or the dude with a swastika on his shirt and say 'bad!', but not quite as easy to accept the fact you that have unearned privileges because you are white.
the thing about white privilege is you can't just say, 'okay, i have it. it makes me feel bad/guilty, but whatevs.' because whether you like it or not, you still benefit from it/poc still suffer because they don't have it.
so firstly, if you really wanted to work on not being a card carrying member of the man, i would suggest that you do as much reading about whiteness and white privilege as possible. i can probably point you in the direction of some appropriate reading material if you want.
secondly, after you have educated yourself and listened to what poc say to you about race and such, i would suggest that you get involved in some sort of anti-racist organization/work for the greater good.

Dear Cori,

If you like, I would love to have this published in the Fahari/Libertad magazine in SUNY New Paltz. It's neat to have your stuff officially published but also we've been trying to make a lof of changes to the articles being produced. It's safe to say that a lot of the articles published are "fucking racism! god damnit!! fuck you!!" articles. And those articles are very healthy to write and express to people...but our new presidents (producers? managers?) have really wanted to touch more on relevant factual stuff that educates more than it does...well...rant. If you're interested just hit me with the titles you'd want for them, and know that you'd obviously get the credit (no I will steal your writing har har!) They really are fabulous.

UMG u should rite a book LOLOlolol!!!

...you always wonder if despite the fact that you may have changed someone, will they then retain what's been said and pass it along.

I wonder if that professor will ever bring up your "GOOD POINTS!"
