Soooo.

My internet died, was out for almost two weeks, I got new internet, and have been Busy. There are a few bandwidth allowance issues with said new internet, but whatever. At least it works; I'm too mellow atm to be irritated about it, as I have been for the last four days running.

My grad school applications to UT fell through, but I've got two other schools in the works - I'd appreciate prayers/happy thoughts/crossed fingers/any combination of the above. Not knowing where you're going to be in three months is terrifying.

There's an exciting new thing at work. Starting tomorrow I'll be working with a massive collection of 18th century French books, documents and manuscripts - I'm going to miss my old supervisor, who is wonderful, but this is a really great opportunity for me educationally and in terms of work experience. They needed a student worker who could identify what the pieces are, since the guy working with it doesn't speak French - my supervisor knew I did, so she mentioned me. I'm kind of nervous - the new guy knows I'm not fluent, though, so it should be alright. Plus, I poked through one of them yesterday (very very carefully), and I understood it just fine, f's and all. Very exciting!

The pottery I painted is finished, according to the woman at the shop - pics later. I did a soy dish with an anchor on it, hand drawn from the pattern on my vintage teacup from the navy. Said soy dish will not be used as a soy dish, but will, in fact, see much more noble and frequent use as a spoon/teabag rest. Nautical kitchen is love. Yes.

So I've decided that I'm going to pick up a new weaving project, seeing as my other two fiber projects are Frightening right now, and weaving is relaxing in the extreme, for me. (The other projects are spinning yarn with my oh-so-snazzy drop-spindle, and finishing my Shetland purse. I managed to dye the roving (wool) successfully, without felting it, but my sole attempt at spinning it was somewhat less victorious. The purse is scary because washing the piece once it's off the loom is, generally, scary - and this is five separate pieces, to be put together. They're all hemmed, which went fine, but I'm afraid they won't shrink evenly. I may do that in the washing machine at home this weekend to avoid variance in water temperature, agitation, etc.) The new weaving is going to be a tea towel for Mom for Mother's Day, to be presented around a loaf of this special artisan bread she really likes. I'm trying to make up my mind between a huck lace pattern, or plaid. In either case it'll be red and white, to match her kitchen. I know it's nothing particularly fancy, but if it goes well it should be really pretty.

Home this weekend, as mentioned - we're going to take photos at the Dallas Arboretum for graduation announcements, swing by the weaving store nearby, get an Easter/graduation dress and shoes, etc., etc. Should be fun, and Dad will be in LA, so it'll be another girls' weekend, which is always nice, too.

I should run - I missed Eliot on Tuesday because I was frantically trying to mail grad school application stuff, which ended up falling through anyway. It's one of my favorite classes, though, and I don't want to be late.
