Untill I decided to get a fish tank. Not a small betta tank..although thats how this -did- all start...but a nice 20 gallon. SO I'm going to look around at prices and such, and try to plan the lay out of the tank. Part of me really wants live plants, and then the other part really dosnt want the hassle ( Read more... )

Of all the fish Ive had over the years 2 have really stood out;

Butthead-A paradise Gourami- He had an attitude you would not believe. Pushy, territorial and all bluff. He used to watch every move I did through out the room. They are in the same family as the betas so are labyrinth fish and air breathers. He was not the laze around like a beta type either. He loved to move his pebbles around.

Leo-Lion head oranda- Leo was flat out sweet. He loved to have his head rubbed and would burble if you stood next to his tank. I used to put a little hollow ball on the top of the water and he would bum it around the tank. They are prone to swim bladder problems tho, I wish I had known back then a little green pea would have helped that. It was not uncommon for him to randomly end up swimming upside down after gulping a meal down too fast.

Easy way to prevent bladder problems in goldfish is to soak there food before you give it too them, seeing if its fed dry it will absorbe the mositure within there body and swell, giving them the swim bladder issue.
You can also give them cucumber, lettuce, orange, and bannana's for a variety in there diet. Frozen and freeze dried food works well too if soaked ahead of time.

I think I'm getting a pearlscale goldfish with a few other smaller buddies in his tank. It will take a while to get everything I need for him though.

I was a SPO back then. Got them not really knowing much about them, just learned as I went. I know alot more now but am quite satisfied with one pupster. Tak has his bunny too so we have plenty of pets.
