So, it's my birthday, and I bought a few things from Amazon. I also made use of their 'gift note' feature so that all my items would have a little bday note that says 'From: Bruno To: Bruno Re: Happy Birthday ( Read more... )

Whoa. Complete symphonies and piano concertos. That's a lot. I think I have a prejudice against Beethoven. Maybe because the only things I know from him are super famous and have been overplayed to death and used in countless bad movies and TV commercials. But listening to the complete symphonies and piano concertos definitely sounds like a good way to fix that.

I'll finally get to see Jeremy!

Let me know what's going on Friday.

I kinda feel the same way about Beethoven.

I think the problem is context - every time we hear his stuff casually it's in the absolute worst setting imaginable. Unfortunately I'm finding that a lot of times that's how I listen to music.. in the car.. at work on headphones, in front of the computer. When I was younger I would often put time aside to sit in my living room, doing nothing except listening to music and it's so much better. I want to do that again.

When I get my own house I want to have a music listening room with fancy speakers and comfortable chairs. And possibly fancy wines.

Happy Birthday to you!!!!! noize_girl March 14 2007, 22:33:59 UTC
I could so see you sitting in some fancy, brown leather armchair, with a glass of wine, listening to classical music.

That is exactly how I listen to Beethoven. Did you get the Karajan symphonies? I have those, both on CD and vinyl. When it is actually listened to, even the 5th is sublime. But my favourite continues to be the 7th, the second movement in particular. The fugue sucks you into the depths, then expels you with the climax.

So, when I am there, in little over a month, shall we have a night of fine wines and fine speakers and Beethoven?
