birthday ideas?

i live in the bay area.
soon i'll be 39.
my apartment is too small for a party.
although I know a dj who will do a party for me.
i like delicious food but it does not need to be expensive.
in fact: i am capable of making my own bday cake
and have done it for many years.

i have a lot of friends
and I'm not even sure I want to get them all in one place.
