It's like, sometimes, I really don't get how the world - or anyways, *this particular part of the world*, works. Easy example, what's all this obsession with how much a home is valued at? On the first point, it may have something to do with the way thirty year mortgages and the interest deduction strongly incentive home ownership from a financial perspective. There's other dynamics at work too, but my instinct is that's the biggest.

Greg, still not sure I understand. Like, once I buy a place, how much do I care what it's supposedly worth? I didn't buy it to sell, I bought it to live in. Unless "property values" are just proxies for neighborhood quality, etc.
