Is it bad that I already planned (and half-paid) my vacation for next year in may? This is really (really!) my final college year. The end date will probably be between February and March. I can't believe that after all this time I can finally see the end of the road. I'll be graduating :) Okay, so I'm not there yet. But yay!
I've started watching Secret Garden (no, nothing to do with that book ;) At first glance it's a story about Kim Joo Won (Hyun Bin), a rich, haughty and lazy chaebol son who meets and falls for the cool and hard working stunt-woman Gil Ra Im (Ha Ji Won).
These posters never make sense, but they sure are pretty!
But this rich chaebol is nothing like the classic k-drama male (the ice cold, often intelligent, perfect persona who needs to be melted down by the female protagonist so he can finally admit his feelings by episode 16 or so). Underneath the very thin veneer of the snotty sophisticated Kim Joo Won beats the heart of a true neurotic. He covers up all his faults with being incredibly blunt and wears hideously sparkly "They are hand stitched, one-of-a-kind, see the label!!" tracksuits. He's truly one of the more unique male leads I've seen. Gil Ra Im is a tough girl, she comes across as a totally cool woman, but she's quite oblivious to the romantic attentions of men around her. And even though she's cool, she let's herself be used for the sake of her work.
Oh and there's body-swapping later on, not really a spoiler since it's been known news about the drama. But I suspected that the body-swapping would be raison d'être for this drama, but by episode two I became so incredibly invested in the characters that it's totally not necessary for this plot twist to happen, the drama does just fine without the swapping so far.
Now, in other region-related news, if the North Korean government can stop being so paranoid and insane, I think we'll all be much happier folks.
