Awesome! And scary. I don't think I'd be brave enough to do that. You're really swimming with the sharks.

Are you scheduled to work the weeks of August 20 or 27?

The sharks are intimidating, but they get fed twice a week with salmon steaks, so they're pretty satisfied. The sevengills swim like they're on a track; they have a particular route they like to travel, and they don't deviate much from it.

You do have to watch out that you're not on top of them when you jump in the water, though.

One of them passed right in front of us when we were doing the broadcast feed. Kneeling in front of a shark with a bucket full of chum... yeah, we didn't move until he was well on his way.

I work every Wednesday from 8 - 3:30. In theory, I'm in the water by 10 am, out at noon, have lunch, and maybe in again in the afternoon, but the schedule varies. It would be awesome if you came to visit! I'm too new to have a pass to give you, but you can usually find discounts to the aquarium if you look around. If nothing else you can get $2 off by visiting the booth outside.

Aquarium of the Bay on Pier 39, right? We'll come visit on a Wednesday at the end of August. Jon gets discounts to lots of things at work, so I'll ask him if this is one of them.

Heh, I remember dissecting a squid at the Acadia Institute of Oceanography. The "pen" does have a pretty weird texture. (Also, I remember an encounter with some dogfish in which they wanted to rub their heads against people's hands, very much like a pet dog or cat.)

So cool that you're getting to do this stuff! :-)
