i have heard theories that a god created us. this raises the question: why? for entertainment? and if he's so powerful, why can't he just make all our lives perfect etc. In addition many people who don't believe ask if he can't make everything good, and take care of everyone, or if he created us because he was bored or something, why should we ( Read more... )

God is different to everyone and basically, it is an opinion of their own. It's not wrong to believe in a different God than someone else. I've never heard anyone assume they know the "true" possibility.

what??? you've never heard anyone assume they know the truth about god? what? to a lot of followers, it's not an opinion, it's an irrefutable fact. i've heard plenty people assume there's no other answer than their own.

i agree with mikey. there are a ton of people who make the assumption that their religion (or lack thereof) is right and there's just no other possibility.

I agree with mikey and hillary as well. My mom thinks everyone is screwed because she knows god's name, and knows hes real and that she is following the right one.

i agree, blind faith is absurd. that goes both ways, though. no one can say there is a god, no one can say there isn't.

everything in the universe follows cause and effect, that much cannot be refuted. it goes without saying, then, that there must have been an uncaused first cause, or many uncaused causes. since they were uncaused, though, they can't exist in our universe, they exist without, in ontological reality. these uncaused causes, then, may be a god, or simply an ordering force the shields the universe from chaos.

i don't think i'd be able to believe any ancient texts. there doesn't seem any reason to believe they're divine, let alone true at all, except for the fact that they've been worshiped and followed for generations before me. there've been countless prophets of countless gods over the eons. i just can't get into the whole "blind faith" thing.

if i weren't so bored i don't think i'd've commented.

I don't want to make a comment/discuss god really...

but I just wanted to point out that it's interesting to see who capitalizes the 'G' in god, and who doesn't.

when i say just "God" i capitalize, but i very carefully made point of say "a god" or "this god." i think out of respect for the religion, even if one does not believe it, he or she should still capitalize "God."

I don't really believe in a "God" Higher power? Maybe.

I'm more of the type of person who looks for "signs" i.e. Wonder if you made the right desicion on something then something happens and it either agrees or dissagrees with what you decided. Happened to me. Couple times =]
