Thank you so much! I'm so glad you liked it. I will always weep for the fact that we didn't get more interaction between them while they were both on the Pearl because there was SO much potential for interesting character stuff...
Interaction between characters would have been so much more entertaining than the pointless Cannibal Island bit...
And we could have *seen* the character developing to the point where running off with the heart *makes actual sense* too. Instead he's just window dressing. *sigh*
This fic definitely helps, though. You should link it to rnotc
"What I meant was… it was easier for you… to be who you are. You were expected to be honorable and brave and loyal… and you are all of those things, so you don't have to pretend. Me? I was expected to be dainty and ladylike and demure… and I am none of those things. So I had to act like I was." Ooh, that's good!
I happydanced so hard when I saw this pop up on my flist. Of course, no time to read it this second, but I should be back later in the day for a proper comment. :)
Ok. First off, I wanted to say thank you for writing this. There'll never be enough angsty Norribeth in this fandom...so this just tickles me.
"You're a good man, even if you've forgotten it."
She reached out and took his hand, and James closed his fingers around hers.
"And you are… as always…a fine woman, Elizabeth." He looked down at her boyish clothes. "Even if you've traded in skirts for trousers."
afkj;lf This is so good it hurts. I love that they eventually are able to find some semblance of friendship in this. I feel like this could have just slipped right in to the movie and would have worked perfectly. You have their voices down perfectly and cast a perfect blend of bittersweet angst and hope for a better day for James.
I loved it! Glad I could be of help to get it from brain to keys. :)
I'm so glad that you liked it! I haven't tried to write Liz in a LONG time, so I was worried that my handle on her voice might be a little rusty. I'm happy to hear they both sounded like themselves to you!
Also, I'm glad to hear it sounded like it could have been slipped into canon... that's what I was going for. I will forever be a little upset that so many of the interactions between the two of them were apparently cut, because I think James' character is the one that suffers for it.
Anyway... thanks again for the inspiration! It was just the poke I needed to actually start putting the vague lines of dialogue that were running around in my head after getting through DMC again into some semblance of order.
