Nice to meet you! Corset-making really is an interesting skill to learn. And with the sort of corset that you plan on making, it shouldn't be too difficult (once you've got the pattern and process figured out) to whip up new ones as you lose weight. Best of luck as you start your corset adventure!
Thank you. I also thought it would be reasonably easy to start with a waspie.
The last few weeks I have been searching the internet, watching videos and ploughing through the community tags/memories trying to absorb as much relevant information like a sponge. The fact that there are no hard rules to corsetry kind of threw me off for a little bit (I kept running into people doing things differently), as did the fact that people use different terms for the same things. It's definitely a bit different from normal clothes sewing, with all the hardware and tools used in and for corsetry. But I think I have a bit of grip on it now, the book I have helped massively with that.
I haven't decided on a specific type of construction yet (bone placement, amount of strength layers, total amount of layers, etc) and I will definitely ask the community about that if, when I finish reading the book and rechecked the community records, I can't decide on my own.
Welcome! We'd love to see what you come up with, and don't hesitate to post with questions. It's quieter around here than it used to be, but people are definitely still watching the comm and willing to give advice/congratulations.
Thank you :) I noticed this comm has become a little bit quieter than a few years ago when I took a peek. But it's still the most active community about corset making on the net that isn't behind a paywall. And you have a huge amount of information stored in the tags/memories.
I still have to finish reading that corset making book I have. I'll check the tags for that book too, to see what others thought of it.
I'll try my best to get as much relevant information myself, before I ask anyone else a question. But it's definitely nice that you are open to it.
Very much so. I get the impression that a lot of people still watch their friends feed, even if they don't post much. So you'll get responses for sure.
I'm glad you like the tags! They were my first project as a moderator.
Yes, the tags are very good indeed. I've just finished Linda Sparks's book and decided to search the community for information of floating linings and fusible interfacings since the books mentions none of these. And bam! Lots of entries for my reading pleasure.
