Want to buy

So, I used to just get all of my supplies through Greenberg & Hammer because they offered great discounts on bulk supplies (such as continuous spiral). I've been 'out of business' for the last two years because I went and had a baby, and my aren't those little buggers a lot of hard work ( Read more... )

I am very confused because I was just there two weeks ago... They have a full stock of bones (spiral and spring), busks, underwires, hoop steel and everything under the sun.

They are my preferred source for many items. They have some of the best prices in the North East and they are usually fully stocked. Did you call them and ask directly?

I know that their web presence isn't the strongest, and no online shopping option...yet. Telephone in and place your order, these guys are the best!

We totally called them directly. They have always been my prefered source, as well. They used to have an online ordering interface, which I used all of the time. When it became unavailable, I called and had huge difficulties with ordering.

Today we spoke with a woman who told us that they didn't have anything we wanted in stock, and when pressed refused to give us any information about when anything would be back into stock.

I am very confused. I will call back and ask to talk to someone else.

Thank you for this info!!

for shoots and grins, what were you trying to order?

I have to go to the garment district tomorrow anyway and now you've got me worried/curious as they are the least expensive in the city. I can give you the direct scoop!

I want like 10 lbs of continuous spiral (1/2inch) and several gross of 1/2inch tips. We were hoping for 15-20 yards of coutil, as well.

You see, we're making about a dozen kits, and then making some sample styles (finished and pieces) to show the students along the way. The classes are repetitively small (6-10 peeps) but we also want to offer private lessons and so we want to have spare kits for that, as well.

I haven't bought from them myself (yet) but I hear very good things about Dragontown Corset Supply.

I used to buy from Farthingales in LA (the actual storefront), back when I lived there. I think they are still selling the same products but via a different company online. They have a livejournal account and I know they explained things there.

CRISIS AVERTED! imblebee February 18 2010, 18:42:52 UTC
Ok, so I just got back home from Greenberg & Hammer.

Cary and Charley both assured me that corsetry supplies would NOT be discontinued. (They are really the only ones left in NYC's garment district with quality supplies and they know it. The theater relies heavily upon them.)

What is happening is that with the economic stresses many of their suppliers aren't stocking mass quantities (tying up $$'s) and as a result are having to wait for larger orders to startup production. I looked through G&H's entire stock and they are a very low on what you were looking for. Coutil is the same story. Their coutil is domestically produced and they have it on order as well.

Cary also told me that 2 weeks ago they had a full stock but the costume department at Disney Wold called up and ordered their entire stock of continuous 1/2" spiral.

I guess it's just a case of inconvenient timing, but they will be stocking supplies as soon as they can!

Hope this helps,

Caitlin

Thank you so much for this info.

My problem is, when I call them up they don't seem to want to give ANY information about the backorder. Like, what they told you? I couldn't get that much info out of them. I asked over and over when they anticipated their next order would be, how long it takes for shipment, etc. They told me that they wouldn't let me pre-pay for it or anything either.

I totally understand the economic situation, and I also understand what it means to have a larger company come in and clean you out (which, honestly, that's awesome for Gb&H to make such a big sale). I'm just really frustrated that no one there is interested in telling me *anything*.

Thank you for your reply. I'm going to show your site to my boss to see about the order.
