Now if any of this stuff spoils you, I'm sorry, but the things I mention that could be spoilery for some have been widely known for months. So, beware. On to business

Wait what? Angel was Twilight? So it had to have happened after he got out of hell right? Otherwise it would make no chronological sense. Did they end up killing him off or something? Did he go evil or was he just on the opposite side of Buffy? Wasn't he walking about in the day though? Where was Spike and all the other Angel crew during this then? Is Season 8 the end of it then or is there more crap being spewed out?
Yes, it happened after the events of IDW's "Angel: After the Fall".
No, they did not kill Angel. However he did kill Giles, and now Angel's catatonic.
He was manipulated by the forces responsible for his powers as Twilight. Thus, once again, Angel is seen as a dupe.
Yes, he was operating during the day, but keep in mind that he has many superpowers as Twilight. It wouldn't make sense to give powers to an operative such as Angel if said powers wouldn't protect him from the sun, would it?
Spike eventually turns up. The rest of Angel's crew does not, as they have no ties to Buffy. They are characters unique to Angel's part of the 'verse.
Season 8 is the end of it for now. There could be a season 9.
That does sound stupid as hell. Why would Angel kill Giles and why is he catatonic now? That also royally screws over any chance of a getting back together. What did Spike do?
Because Giles moved to destroy the source of Twilight's power. Angel is catatonic because now he's free of that power and influence and realizes what he did. Spike helped Buffy, and is now essentially taking a Giles-like role where he keeps track of mystical goings-on and reports to Buffy.
You should read up on it via Wikipedia if you really wish to find out more. Remember, I haven't read it closely. I bowed out, and did so for good reason. You are likely better off not knowing.
