Yeah. This. Blake and Avon had an incredibly vivid relationship in the show, that was awesome to watch, but it creeped me the hell out. That Avon tries, with everything he has, to resist falling into Blake's orbit, his obsession, and ultimately fails ... And Blake doesn't even seem to really care, so long as he gets what he wants. For the part of me the violently cherishes personal autonomy, their relationship pressed a lot of great big angry buttons. It's why I actually can't 'ship them, because intense as the relationship was, I can't read a story that tries to make them equal partners when they obviously aren't, and I can't read any fic that doesn't have them as equal partners but still thinks the relationship is a good one, because ... Because I can't.
And yes. Definitely yes. Horrible as S4 was, I love that the show went there, that it did show the logical consequences of that relationship. Blake absolutely had it coming. *nods savagely*
Yes, I agree. Their relationship is fascinating, but definitely not one that I support or approve of, regardless of if it's in the 'gen' sense or not. And in the latter case I think this may be a good example of when emotional intensity can't really be smoothly translated into a sexual relationship - it shifts into something quite different if you do. (And something that is way, way out of my comfort zone, at that...!) It lacks equality, and it lacks balance - whatever the nature of the input, the cost of it is just hugely greater for Avon than it is for Blake. In addition, Blake and Avon both use physical contact with each other in very subtle ways - Blake mostly to intimidate, Avon mostly to force attention when he really, really needs to be listened to (that Do I have a choice? 'hug' in Duel, dear god...) When that kind of body language gets read as sexual attraction I think there's a big risk that the subtler meanings get washed out rather than enhanced
