wolf tracks

A wolf walked right by my house yesterday! I was at work and did not see it (though others did) but thanks to snow I got to see the tracks! And, wow, what tracks! The only other wolf tracks I've seen were about a week old and had thawed a bit, so I didn't realise they really were that big from the start!

(matchbox is approx 6 cm long and 3,5 cm wide)

That's my garage/woodshed right up there - the road continues past it and up into the forest, and the wolf had followed it (I couldn't backtrack it very far as it was getting dark.)

It is almost certainly one of the couple of wolves that have been sighted in the general area several times during the last month or so (a lot more frequently since the snow came) and while on one level I know this is actually not such a good thing that they are being so fearless of humans and dare to come so close to houses and roads (my concern is mainly for the wolves - if something happens, if they hunt the wrong thing, all hell is going to break loose), I just cannot help being terribly excited, nonetheless. A wolf! :-D
