Pirate Pants

When you spend a decade of a 24-year life working for the local Renaissance Festival, you don't so much acquire a costume as a wardrobe. A good portion of mine is made by me, and what isn't made by me is still largely handmade. For example, my new pants:

I think I may have disturbed some rural types who were driving by whilst I struck a piratical pose. They definitely slowed down, at least.

Hello. I am Tala. I come to spread oddity and weirdness.

It looks floaty and cool for summer sailing, unlike some of the overladen costumes I see on Renn pirates that make them look like walking bags of sweat.

How do you like the damsel's corsets? I love the look of them but always wondered how good the quality was?

I tend to avoid giving a quality rating until I've put it through at least a season's hard labor. My other corset, from bruteforceleather.com , has lasted five or so seasons of hard work without any structural failure; my Damsel corset was given to me only a few months ago and thus has not been put to the ultimate work test (of DOOM!!!).

That said, from what I can feel thusfar it seems like a quality product. The front boning is actually round fiberglass rods rather than steel slats- they're stiff and strong, and the round shape seem to help the corset handle the stress of the lacing without putting too much pressure on the fabric, which speaks of a mind that has put some serious thought into corsetry. It's got a long line which prevents bulges on my hips, and it's a bit lighter boned than my other corset and so will likely be more comfortable for work.

I'll let you know how it does after a season, though. :)

Fair enough, I'll stay tuned for your verdict next year. :-)

Moresca bodices are the only ones I wear to work Renn faire. So I totally understand where you are coming from. Someday I want to make my own, but collecting the tools and materials for quality corset making has been a slow to stalled project for me.
