Flying Mount Specific to City/Faction ?? (WoW)

Oct 16, 2012 15:55

Wind-riders (manticores) are used by flight masters in Thunder Bluff and Orgrimmar, and gryphons are used by flight masters in Stormwind and Ironforge. Thus, the flying mounts available to Horde characters are all wind-riders, while the flying mounts available to Alliance characters are all gryphons.
However, flight masters in Darnassus and the Exodar use blue-green hippogriffs, and flight masters in Undercity and Sen'jin Village use bats, while the flight master in Silvermoon City uses a red-and-white dragon-hawk. (Also, biplanes are used by a quest at Gnomeregan as well as by a quest at Ironforge's airfield.)
Therefore, it would make sense for one unique/customized type of flying mount to be made available for each of the cities/factions. This special flying mount would become available for sale once a character has achieved Exalted reputation with that city's faction (even if the character was already of the corresponding race). City and Associated Mount

(Alliance)
  • Darnassus - Hippogriff with trappings specific to Darnassus
  • The Exodar - Hippogriff with trappings specific to the Exodar
  • Gnomeregan - Biplane with markings specific to Gnomeregan
  • Ironforge - (opt.1): Gryphon with trappings specific to Ironforge;
...or, (opt.2): Biplane with markings specific to Ironforge
  • Stormwind - Gryphon with trappings specific to Stormwind

(Horde)
  • Orgrimmar - Wind-rider with trappings specific to Orgrimmar
  • Sen'jin Village - Bat with trappings specific to Sen'jin Village
  • Silvermoon City - Dragon-hawk with trappings specific to Silvermoon City
  • Thunder Bluff - Wind-rider with trappings specific to Thunder Bluff
  • Undercity - Bat with trappings specific to Undercity

Furthermore (and here's the kicker), a binds-on-pickup (BOP) item for that mount should be a "drop" (of whatever rarity) from the associated royal (when killed by a PVP raid from the opposing faction), thus giving the opposing side a chance to obtain that flying mount.
Before I post this idea onto WoW's official forums, I'm looking for feedback from my friends here on LJ, please.
1) Is this a good idea at all? Why (or, why not)? What do you like most about this idea? Conversely, what do you dislike most about this idea?
2) For Ironforge (i.e. the dwarves), which is the more appropriate option -- the gryphon, or the biplane? Why?
Thanks!!   ;-)

wow, azeroth, feedback
