5 gallons of beer bottled last night.

Recipe (Batch 02009-01):
3 lbs Muntons Amber Dry Malt Extract
1/2 cup chocolate malt grain (in a mesh bag)
1 oz Crystal Hops pellets
1 Muntons Brewing yeast

Seemed a little weak.

Yeah, I would have expected more like 6 lbs of extract for a 5 gallon batch. At peak efficiency, that would give only about a 1.027 original gravity. Even if that ferments down to 1.007 as a FG, that's only a 2.6% ABV.

Agreed-- I'm not such a book-larnin' type of brewer (I do science for a living; I brew like I cook: throw stuff in a pot, and make it come out good), but 3 lbs. dry malt sounds like not enough for a 5 gallon batch.

Depending on quite how you did it, the 1/2 C of chocolate malt might have been expected to add some sugar, but unless you're sparging it, not much sugar...

That said, ain't nothing wrong with small beers! Drink more of it, is all.

leaving the weak aside it is a lovely amber color. I like weak, says the person who ends up drunk in two sips.
