I ♥ that you have a chicken named Esmeralda.

And yes, (real) fresh eggs FTW.

I may have told you all this before, but you can be nice to the old guy and pretend like it is the first time you are hearing it. The Original Five were Nicky (Chris named her after his girlfriend at the time), Yva (Rodney named her after one of our favorite musicians, Yva Las Vegass, who used to play on the streets of Seattle but moved to NYC - a real bad ass punk-folk dyke), Lyra (Rodney named her after the main character in The Golden Compass), and the two I named - Josefina and Esmeralda. I gave them those names because I thought they were appropriate chicken names. Josefina (and chickens don't spell, so I sometimes wrote it as Josephina, and sometimes Josefina) was my favorite. I miss her. She was so awesome - so beautiful ( ... )

Oh, and Rodney is all about my names UNTIL we get a critter, then he tells me how he is really feeling. Kuma was going to be Buñuel. I thought we had agreed on it. We both love Luis Buñuel films, and I thought we had decided, but then when Kuma entered our lives Rodney said it wasn't a dog name.

We went through a zillion other names. Rodney vetoed all of mine, and I his. Then I came up with Kuma. Rodney was either exhausted by that point and knew he wouldn't win, or he actually decided he liked it. Our other boys came with names. Aspen was the name the shelter gave him, but we liked it and thought it fit, so we kept it (the shelter had called Kuma "Brady", but we didn't want that).

I flaked out when looking at houses to buy if anything had a garden. I just thought I would never look after it. Now I realise I could have kept chickens. Darn. Later in life maybe.
