Watching the charts...

As suspected, Cosmicity is the faster climber of my two musical efforts on thesixtyone.com.I gotta tell you, though, this site is an eye-opener for me. Completely democratic... people vote for their favorite songs, and the most successful songs make it to the home page and are considered "hits". And it's fascinating to see what songs work and ( Read more... )

hm, "regenerate" and "let me in", eh? weird. i guess there's no accounting for taste. ;)

srsly tho...i guess my favourite slow-er songs of yours were always "awake" and "this city".

go baby!

Thanks!

I am definitely considering "Awake", though I REALLY have to wonder if that one is too dated. To me there is a pretty big leap in recording quality between my 1995 stuff and my 1997 stuff. But if I'm learning anything, it's that when the song is there, people (at least these people) don't seem to get hung up on the quality.

I was surprised about "Rengerate" too, but I have observed the chord change that happens during the chorus of that song frighten people before (they make a sour face when they hear it). It has an unfamiliar sound that some people's ears don't like, and that might be what's happening to folks on a first listen. Whereas my friend Steve always liked to point out that you can sing almost the entire chorus of "I Believe I Can Fly" along with "Let Me In", so I guess that proves it's a damn familiar chord progression. ;-)

well, i don't think "awake" is as dated as, say, "self involved" (lyrically) or "keep me in mind" (production-wise), but i see your point. the remix from resynthesized would work, i think.

really? the chord change there never got me. though, now that you mention it, i do believe "i believe i can fly"... ;)

yeah, i think the resynthesized version of awake could work.

and for some reason i think "Apple" is a likely winner. and maybe the upbeat version of "The Introvert" from Resynthesized also...

It's a good thing you don't really have a farm, then (although it'd be kind of cool if you had a farm!).

(I'm telling you, make some brain vibes to make Zoe be born on Friday because being born on Friday the 13th would be hella awesome.)

oh yeah, and I have no idea what would be a hit because I have a thing for songs that no one else likes.

I'll work on getting that farm. :-)

Yeah, you like songs no one else likes, but that doesn't mean you can't figure out what other people WILL like. I'm the same way - my favs aren't the ones that'll probably work best. But now I'm getting better at guessing. After "Let Me In" worked, posting "Crucify" sounded right, and sure enough, it's a hit...

PS - Odds on Zoe showing up Friday the 13th: higher than average, I think. I mean, consider Zoe's mom for a moment. She could totally wake up Friday morning and her brain could go "now!" and trigger labor. Though if not then, watch the 18th. That's the date I picked out 9 months go.

Spicy foods and climbing stairs should do it.

Our first was a long labor that started during Valentine's Day dinner at our favorite Chinese restaurant. We enjoyed our meal, then my wife clawed my arm all night; neither of us a slept a wink. Then when I kept falling asleep during the long labor (12hrs?), she would get mad at me. And when it was all over and we took a photo with the baby; she looked absolutely wonderful (motherly glow) and I looked a wreck. I've meant to bring up that I don't like that photo and wish she would take it off the fireplace mantle. The other two were much, much easier and quicker. :-)

Well, Crucify *has* held up better than another song of the era.

The beauty of letting the Cosmicity catalog be (re)discovered is that there's TONS of tracks and enough variety for just about anyone.

I'm the absolute worst person to give any advice on what to post or not because I'm wrong 99.99% of the time. (The Envelope??? Always loved that one...)

Someone beat me to the punch re: the Friday the 13th suggestion. I looked at my calendar this morning and noticed that. Whatever it takes, dude... whatever it takes. Tickle her, take her on roller coaster rides, feed her a bucket full of spicy food... repeat... You have 24 full hours to make it happen.

You know I'll do my best. On top of everything else, she has a doctor's appointment that day, so if she went into labor there, it'd just be extra-super convenient! I'll do everything I can. I'm saving up all my best jokes to make her laugh (supposedly helps?), and I'll be loading her up with spicy food on Thursday night. :-)

I think you should just walk in to the doctor's office, sit down, hand this to them and say "Where do we check in and get this show on the road? We've got 23 hours and 15 minutes left... Got time to lean? Then you've got time to clean... scrub up doc. It's a girl..."
