Proxy

I recorded the vocals to one of my new songs, called "Proxy", today while Sara and Zoe were out for a while. When I was all done and I was listening to playback, I burst into tears and I couldn't stop crying ( Read more... )

"Outlets keep you grounded!"

I'm glad the music works that way for you. Whatever you compose, I expect you'll be true to yourself in doing it. And if you can occasionally look back at a somber, emotional song and rework it into a liberating dance mix, I wouldn't begrudge that.

As a father of three, what you've posted over the past few months has prompted me to say so much; but I never did. Don't know why, but I suppose part of it is being uncomfortable with that boundary between the support of your friends (who seem truly great) and the support of someone you know through a blog / music. But your openness is a great quality, so don't ever think all those postings were a problem.

Know that us lurkers are thinking about you and praying for only the best of circumstances for your family. Humans are skilled at adaptation and life is full of twists and turns, so take joy where you can and never underestimate the good waiting the future.

Your lyrics are always spot on and you're not fearful about exposing yourself (musically... well, and...). For them to move you that much must mean they're pretty personal. You don't really make anything off-limits for your songs, so it must be pretty powerful to be such a release.

Looking forward to hearing this stuff when it's ready. I'm glad you've got an outlet for all of this!

Thanks. They do definitely run the risk of being TOO personal. People listening who don't know the backstory about Zoe might not get 'em, but then again, perhaps it won't matter. A lot of times, even when I think lyrics are incredibly specific, people find a way to apply their own experiences and still relate to them.

I say let it all out. I've always run the risk of being too personal, but ultimately, the listener doesn't know what's autobiographical and what's fiction. Some people assume everything is autobiographical, but screw 'em. I know you'll write what's meaningful to you, and I know we'll "get it" on one level or another.
