Wipeout is in the same vein, but not the same show as either. Wipeout is four rounds, and starts with 24 players. Everyone runs the first course, and the twelve with the fastest times progress to the second round. Round two is an athletic endurance game (players stand on poles and jump over a bar on a rotating crane), with the six longest-lasting players going on. Round three is a short agility course. The four winners of the third round then take on the Wipeout Zone, a very demanding course, with the fastest time winning 50,000 dollars. The Ninja Warrior regulars almost certainly didn't try to take on Takeshi's Castle, as Takeshi's Castle stopped airing in 1989 and Sasuke started in 1997.
The thing that makes Wipeout different is that even if you wipe out (it's virtually guaranteed that every player will wipe out at least once, almost certainly more), the only time that a wipeout results in elimination is if you're one of the first six to fall off your pole in round 2.
