Today is Valentine's Day, and normally I'm against holidays that are designed just to sell greeting cards and chocolate (okay, maybe there's never a bad time for chocolate). But I was getting coffee a little while ago, and I noticed they had these special red sleeves made for V-day:

I read a series of books where part of the culture of one planet was a detailed and highly elaborate code of earrings to indicate current status, what you were looking for gender-wise, what you were looking for relationship-wise, and other stuff like that. I guess it'd take the risk out of approaching someone, but it was a complex cultural thing going back hundreds of years. The coffee sleeve thing just seems kind of sad and desperate, and potentially exploitable by stalkers and predators.

Yeah, I pretty much thought that too. Although it didn't occur to me that it could attract stalkers. Yikes.
