Went to WP's Aljunied rally last night and bits of PAP's Hougang and Aljunied rally tonight
Aljunied's WP rally
- totally crowded as expected, still lots of people walking there when we went around 8.30pm
- was just in time to hear all 5 candidates talk
- Faisal's speech was average, something family oriented? don't quite remember
- Pritnam Singh spoke rather well, criticised NCMP scheme as teeth no bite
- CSM's speech was rather disappointing. 1) he referred to his speech of the night before, but I think he should have given that speech and made his fanciful multi-language speech attempt at Serangoon stadium instead, aren't they the people he was trying to impress? 2) he asked questions that called for reflecting, rather than being intuitively answered with yes or no. hmm, both good and bad? 3) he should have gave a speech in Mandarin rather than Sylvia Lim :P
- LTK and SL's speeches were as good as before!
- LTK spoke about the injustice of the GRC system
- SL spoke about voting secrecy and addressing fears about voting George Yeo out.
- walked to Serangoon Gardens for dinner after the rally. a car driving past had their window down and was waving a WP flag, and a group of people walking behind us waved their WP flag back at them XD
Hougang's PAP rally
- they hadn't even started - were still testing the mic when we passed the field at 7.30pm. (...uh, weren't they supposed to start at 7?)
- expectedly not too crowded
- we got free bottles of mineral water
- Desmond Choo's a pretty good speaker; his speech focused solely on Hougang, recounted personal stories, problems he saw in Hougang, some things he has done, and promises action he'll take for the future - a new job placement centre, sheltered walkways, exercise centres for the elderly (it sounds good, though I hear that these are called "Carrots" and that there was a $1m one promised last election. Not even $1m this election? :P)
- heard that DC is a auntie killer, lol.
- Teo Chee Hean spoke after him, and dismissed WP's campaign about "first world parliament" by saying he doesn't think it's the main concern of Hougang residents (uhh... I'm rather concerned about that, personally). His speech's focus was probably more macro-economic, he was talking about cost of living and govt subsidiary schemes when I left for the Aljunied rally.
Aljunied's PAP rally
- wasn't there for most of it so I've nothing much to say, but from the bits I heard and what a friend said, they mostly focused on their track record, listing things they have done, questioning what WP can do, praising George Yeo, and Emotional Dilemma
- more crowded than expected
- 3rd rally that I entered at a Malay speech XD
- Cynthia Phua's Mandarin is worse than Sylvia Lim's XD
- there were groups in the crowd with clappers and whistles who cheered very loudly
- George Yeo said the election was not about him vs LTK as the WP tries to make it, but about the voters (and was cheered). Actually, I seem to recall WP saying the same thing (that it's not about GY vs LTK, but about the voters) last night. So, I wonder who said it was about GY vs LTK anyway, the media?
