Addressing previous post and design/patterns.

Let me first just dive right into the critiques I recieved on my last journal. I think a general misunderstanding happened in the previous post, and I want to fix it. The general intended audience of this blog is people who aren't into the play part of cosplay as much as the costuming. This is a blog for people who do want to make good costumes, ( Read more... )

I am curious as to whether this is all that should be done for the planning process? I see your next topic is fabric, however, I know I usually do a bit more planning before jumping into fabric choice and patterns.

Do you sketch out ideas? Do you have more than one image readily available as a reference? Do you make a schedule or a to-do list? (perhaps that is too OCD lol)

Imo, it would make this blog much more interesting, if you did more than just talk about what you should do, and actually did it, or maybe, included research/critique of other cosplayers and why your points are valid. I mean, anyone can type up a "what not to do" list! The concept for this blog is pretty cool! Though I want to see more! MORE!

Also, you are totally welcome to slam me about using satin for a cosplay. Use it as an example of why using satin usually isn't the best idea.. like.. ever.

You actually gave me some good info, thanks!

I can't really do the "blog as I go on a costume" thing, because I really don't start this early (next con is in early September for me), but if (I hope so) that this blog is still going around con-time, I will definitely post progress things.

You made a really good point with the multiple reference pictures point, I usually do use multiple pictures, but for the purpose of this blog I didn't. Do you think I should post multiple references for each character? I would definitely consider it depending on feedback.

My advisor actually suggested posting bad cosplay as examples, but I thought that might be a little rude, even if I do look at bad cosplay personally.

And I don't think satin is ALWAYS bad... just usually. <3

Oic, I usually work year round, gathering supplies and doing small things.. though even that is very minimal work, so I see what you mean

I think you should at least say something about having multiple references, ya.

bad cosplay.. maybe post a good cosplay and discuss what you thought worked, and what didn't. It won't make you any friends though.. Un-welcomed critique isn't usually taken well, haha

.. but there's always man faye and Sailor bubba..

The reason that Man-Faye and Sailor Bubba did those costumes was to be gross though. Or we can only hope that is why they did them. lol

I see what you mean though, I could take very widely used bad costume pictures and use them.
