Number 39? 39? Number 40?

Last Thursday I got the guts to finally go down to Columbus State and register to take a class. I've been thinking for awhile about going into nursing (pediatric or NICU), and Aaron and I had agreed that maybe I should take a few science classes to see if: 1. I really enjoy this stuff and 2. I can do well in class ( Read more... )

CS appears to have a talent for long, tedious, aggrivating proceedures. When I tried to apply there for school, they told me I needed my high school transcripts, my college transcript, a transcript from the one measaly class I took at UC (and which appears on my OSU transcript), and proof that I'd taken a TB test and had all my shots. When I made the mistake of telling them that I've had TB, they told me I needed a letter from the pediatrican, verification from the surgeon, and copies of the original x-rays. Did I mention that I was two and living in Cleveland at the time I got sick? The pediatrican has probably retired and I'm quite sure those records don't exist any more. *sigh*
You might want to look into offerings at the hospitals as well. They can be tough to get into, but the classes tend to be smaller. :)

Heh...yeah, that sounds about right.

Actually, I'm looking into the OSU Graduate Entry program. It's a 3 year program for those who have a bachelor's degree in anything other than nursing. By the end of year 2 you can take the RN exam, and at the end of year 3, you have a Masters degree in Nursing, and you have trained in one speciality and can test for that area as well.

But to get into OSU's program, you have to first have anatomy/physiology, microbiology and pharmacology before you start. So I'm taking those at Columbus State, since it's cheaper and they offer more online classes. :)

...they only have about 25 slots for that program every year, which is what they don't tell you. OSU had me on the hook for a year taking those prerequisite classes, and then they wouldn't admit me after assurances that it wouldn't be a problem and dragging me through a blizzard and an interview.
Sorry, I don't mean to be pessimistic or discouraging, I just want you to be able to avoid the runaround that I went through. :)

Hmmm...interesting. Thanks, that's good to know.

Luckily, all of the prereq classes are classes needed for the Columbus State nursing program as well, so if I couldn't get into the OSU one, I could stay at CSCC.

Mount Carmel has a nursing program, but yeesh it's expensive!
