The best cure for that feeling (in my opinion) is the companionship of my husband and the joy of my daughter.

I think the academic environment encourages such thought. Those around you who are not persuing advanced degrees do not understand the drive and dedication it takes to succeed in the academic world ... they see it as selfish and indulgent.
The academic world itself encourages such thoughts as well ... everything is for a grade, you are alwys held up in comparison to your academic colleagues ... and just when you think you might be on to something, someone else knocks you off the pedestal and reminds you of how lowly you are.

Those "revenge" thoughts were a driving force to me ... same as the thoughts that said, "I am too weak, I can not continue in this way."

Good luck, and don't let the dumb bitches get on your nerves!
