Really? Don't they, like... Beat you senseless with carrots if you do that?
It's a kind of strange thing to think about. "Here's this graphic novel I wrote several years ago. Now I want all of you to forget everything about it while I redo it." Maybe I have an irrational fear of going back to old projects.
Ditto ditto ditto, but here's my justification of doing a bad job on a good story: Basically, it has to be done. Period. I can't use bad plots for my first books, because I refuse to write something that could have been better. Plus, if I have a good plot, at least I can lend that to the book to give it some chance of survival in the mad, mad world of writing that is my early work. If I want to be able to write good books with good plots later on, it's probably a good idea to practice on good plots, or else where would I end up? I can't go anywhere if I don't practice, and I can't practice if I'm not really trying for real, so some really fabulous characters and stories aren't going to get the treatment they deserve -- because I can't give it to them yet. It's like when you have your first kid. S/he gets some crazy weird parenting techniques that the younger siblings don't have to suffer through, just because you're new to being a parent. But it happens. Maybe it even builds character.
