Or thoughts on other people's thoughts..I dunno
Firstly. I'm not convinced of the vessel theory going around. Leaves more questions than anything I think. Stuff people are citing as evidence like Dean not eating? He's been in purgatory for a year (our time), you can't go on a diet and not eat any real food in years and expect to wolf down bacon all of a sudden. That's not good for the body and the person needs time to adjust to normal foods again. I don't think it's that weird. So Dean ate a burger and Cas likes burgers.. Dean has ALWAYS liked burgers. That's his thing; beer, burgers and pie. It's not that weird, imo. His cut from getting Benny out of his arm wasn't there later in the ep.?. This is SPN, they forgot CAS' HANDPRINT at some point. They get beat up and cut SO many times and then an episode later it's gone. This is nothing new or noteworthy either, imo. Dean is more zen? They already established that Dean is renewed in his purpose and functionally differently this season because of his experience. Which isn't that much of a stretch. Or course he's changed. I mean, his life was flipped upside down and he had to adapt.
Do I think it could be possible Cas used Dean like a vessel similar to the way Benny did? Well yea, it's very plausible & may well have happened. I dunno if Cas is out of purgatory or not. I think that's still up in the air. I just don't think the above constitute as super great evidence for Cas continuing to be in him. Also, why would he still be in Dean? What happened to his body? I'm not sure I buy Jimmy is still around and kicking enough to take over. I do think it's possible Cas slipped Dean some grace to help him function better in Purgatory. That or maybe he just didn't have the same Earthly needs since he was on a different plane of existence. *shrug* I dunno. It's too early to speculate for me. I'm usually wrong though. lol I wouldn't put anything pass them though. This is SPN after all. Anything could happen. Hey, maybe everyone is totally right. I'm not saying it's not possible at all. Wouldn't be the first time my speculations were way off and everyone else was right. Just not convinced yet. I may change my mind after seeing the next eps. Who knows.
Right now I just think Dean and Benny are both hiding something and Cas is a part of that. I just think something else has happened to Cas and that's gonna play into the future episodes and the overall story arc. Again, I'm usually wrong anyway so it wouldn't be anything new if that's not the case lol
Silly shipping drama aside; I'm not worried about Benny replacing Cas. If anything, Benny is replacing Sam's role as surrogate brother. It's clear a big focus of this season will be Sam's changing priorities and philosophy. It makes sense Dean would turn to Benny as a brother in arms when he feels disappointed about Sam. Also I think Dean & Benny have something they wouldn't want Sam to know. It seems to me Dean is keeping that and his broship with Benny on the down-low because he knows Sam wouldn't approve.
Also, anyone has read and keep up with all the spoilers knows its been said many times Benny is not meant to be a good guy. He's a vampire and they made it fairly suggestive that he's up to something and possibly has ulterior motives. I suspect they are setting up he and Dean's broship as a big deal right now because it will be important later when Benny likely inevitably betrays them somehow. I don't know how some people think he will replace Cas. Also they know by now how much viewership from hardcore fans Misha/Cas bring to the show. Carver already said Cas will play a big role this season and Misha has been filming pretty non stop lately so he should be around quite a bit. Also Carver himself defended Cas and asserted pretty heavily that he likes Cas a lot as a character and respects his friendship with Dean. Let's not forgot the episodes he's written. It was obvious Dean cared in the ep. And Cas will be around more in the latter eps also Misha said was pretty pleased with what he knew about his role so far so that's a good sign.
It may play out frustratingly for some with Dean leaning on Benny more for awhile but I think that's leading up to something that will hopefully make sense and be a good payoff. I don't think he's trying to replace anyone. Minor characters come and go. Maybe because SPN fandom is so adverse to new characters more than any other fandom I've ever seen; this is touchy for some people. But..there will be new characters that come in and out of the main characters lives. That's...pretty normal for any TV show. It's nothing new. I don't think Benny is attractive & I don't really trust him but I'm not really threatened by his broship with Dean in terms of shipping or anything.
For people think this means Jared will be written off the show. Come on. Really? lol If you think so, I'm judging you. lol Can't believe people think this. Carver said he has vaguely plotted and planned for possibly doing 2 more seasons, you really think it's gonna turn into the Dean & Benny show? Sam is obviously gonna have some revelation mid-season and get back into the game. Right now I do think his characterization is... different. It'll be interesting to see how that plays out because honestly Sam leaves hunting like once every season so this is nothing new lol But I think they will flesh out his feelings and deal with that through out the season. He always comes around though. I mean, Jared isn't going anywhere. And I doubt Jensen would stay on if Jared didn't.
Things I am worried/curious about: Seriously what's up with Cas? He didn't seem to be holding up to well in purgatory from what we know so far :( Also I'm really curious about what his role is this season. They've been keeping it SO secret. Misha seems to be filming a lot right now but I'm still uncertain if this is flashbacks or if some of it is eventually in the present time or not. I know Jared slipped and said "Sam tells Cas & Dean...this and that..." so I'm wondering if that was slip of something that happens or just a him misspeaking/ a mistake.
I think the next ep will reveal quite a bit more as far as Cas goes. Still think that tweet Misha made about it awhile back a was a semi spoiler but maybe that's just wishful thinking lol Probably was nothing.
Either way I just hope Cas' role is actually relevant to the main plot for once and not some off screen mission like they've done in the past. I'm still worried about him. I just want him to be secured on the show until the series ends. Is that too much to ask? I just worry they'll write him off after this season. *sigh* Such is loving a minor (technical term, he's not minor to me) character.
Also I hope their individual issues can really be dealt with for once, Sam's reluctance and Dean's secrecy and trauma; I hope they can just come together as Team Free Will REALLY this time and do things together and learn to trust each other again. Tried of all the infighting, secrecy and drama amongst them. That's getting old. Ready for them to grow as characters.
Really curious to see how the story arc is gonna play out. Who's gonna be the big bad? I heard early spoilers that indicated it was someone they faced before. I'm curious to see how that plays into their personal struggles and the purgatory thing overall. Should be interesting! I also want to skip ahead to midseason and just get it on with lol I'm hopeful though. Carver is a breath of fresh air and I hope he maintains that.
