Step One
- Make a post (public, friendslocked, filtered...whatever you're comfortable with) to your LJ. The post should contain your list of 10 holiday wishes. The wishes can be anything at all, from simple and fun ("I'd love a Snape/Hermione icon that's just for me") to medium ("I wish for _____ on DVD") to really big ("All I want for Christmas is a new car/computer/house/TV.") The important thing is, make sure these wishes are things you really, truly want.
- If you wish for real possible things, make sure you include some sort of contact info in your post, whether it's your address or just your email address where Santa (or one of his elves) could get in touch with you.
- Also, make sure you post some version of these guidelines in your LJ, or link to this post (it'll be public) so that the holiday joy will spread.
Step Two
- Surf around your friendslist (or friendsfriends, or just random journals) to see who has posted their list. And now here's the important part:
- If you see a wish you can grant, and it's in your heart to do so, make someone's wish come true. Sometimes someone's trash is another's treasure, and if you have a leather jacket you don't want or a gift certificate you won't use--or even know where you could get someone's dream purebred Basset Hound for free--do it.
You needn't spend money on these wishes unless you want to. The point isn't to put people out, it's to provide everyone a chance to be someone else's holiday elf--to spread the joy. Gifts can be made anonymously or not--it's your call.
There are no rules with this project, no guarantees, and no strings attached. Just...wish, and it might come true. Give, and you might receive. And you'll have the joy of knowing you made someone's holiday special.
1. I could use a hands-free headset for my phone. Someone gave me a nice one last year and it somehow got lost. I do hope it turns up when I start cleaning and packing this place up.
2. I could use a set of sunglasses that look sharp. I know that many will read that and remember me saying that I don't wear sunglasses, but I have worn them recently and they're not as bad as the glasses that traumatized me as a child.
3. I could use gift ideas for my family. I've put all my shopping energy into one person so far, and though that effort is well worth it, I have nothing to offer the rest of my family. Help!
4. I need a bartending gig that doesn't pay so poorly. This past Tuesday night was horrid, with me barely making above minimum wage, and that's my starting salary! The tips were flowing like mud...
5. I need the strength to throw away all the stuff that I never look at but yet can't live without. My closet packrat tendencies need to go, along with most of my closet.
(Yeah, I know this is all cheesy stuff but I don't really want much in the way of "stuff." Yes, I'm a pain in the ass to shop for.)
6. I want the chance to watch Season 4 of Farscape so that I can see what I missed (though I'm told it's not much).
7. I want a clue about what I should do next with myself, job-wise and such.
8. I want a busty video card that will run Doom 3 at the highest resolution and not even sweat. A new motherboard and processor to go with this card would be nice too.
9. A futon to replace the dorm-level sofa bed that I refuse to let go of would be fantastic.
10. Most important of all, I want it to go ahead and be Dec. 20th. I think I've waited long enough for
mogley to get back and she just needs to get here.
