COUGAR RIDGE GAZETTE // SUNDAY, JANUARY 13, 2008

Good morning, Cougar Ridge!

When I said last week that I wouldn't turn away more characters, I didn't expect to get so many of them! Welcome to William Watts, Eliza Young, Ingrid DeSantos, Loretta Angell, and Harry Gilman! That makes seven new characters since the New Year!

Barry Dawson is still on the MIA list. When the weekly entry goes up tonight, if he has not posted or stated his intentions, he'll be put on the banned list, and I'll decide just what to do with him (and Sol's Salty Lemon, too). Thanks to everyone else for letting me know your intentions. Kevin Eidelman has gone into the military, and so will not likely be posting during that time. Noah Harrison is in hospital for an undefined length of time. James Coulter has not, despite appearances to the contrary, left the game.

I've gotten plenty of comments about how nice it would be to write longer posts, or more of them, and I'm not going to back down. The main reason for the limits was to make it easy for everyone to keep up with the game. We're inching back up towards 100 posts per week. If we get up there, and they are all 500 words long, that's 50,000 words to be read every week. That's how many words you're supposed to write for National Novel Writing Month in November. That's a lot of reading. Besides, if I give you seven posts a week, I'll start getting asked for ten. If I say you can write up to 750 words per post, you'll start going up to 1,000. You all know it. I know it. It's also a matter of consideration for the players who are not posting as much. If one character writes 3,000 words per week, and another only 750, those 750 are likely to be drowned out by the longer, more frequent posts. I really and truly do feel your pain, and I understand the desire to write novels here. However, the limits were set for a reason. I would like to adhere to them. I do not want to start deleting posts because people cannot follow the rules.

I am planning to re-work the street map, once I have some free time (really, that does not translate to never, I hope). There are too many things that are not on there that need to be, like the elementary and middle schools, post office . . . I'm sure I can think of more.

I'd also like to make some banners for advertising the game, but I don't know when I'd get around to that. If anyone would be interested in helping, please let me know. I have some ideas that are very funny, and you will all laugh appreciatively when they are unveiled.

In case you've forgotten: questions, suggestions, bribes for the GM (they won't work, but you're welcome to try), and complaints may be left as a comment on this entry, sent to cougar(dot)ridge(at)earthlink(dot)com, or delivered via LiveJournal's private message system.

Thank you all for playing!
