i'll look forward to reading what you think of jane eyre. i had to read jane eyre for brit lit in high school and i thought it was TERRIBLE. but apparently it's good... i mean, people love it. interesting.
I'm actually interested to know what you think of Jane Eyre. I have thought about re-reading it because when I read it the first time, I was in high school-- no further explanation needed, right? Haha. We seem to have similar tastes, maybe if you like it I'll give it a second chance. No pressure or anything ;)
My sister, who is the very definition of being an anti-reader, sent me an email recommending Speak by Laurie Halse Anderson. Turns out Laurie is from Upstate New York (where I went to high school for Junior and Senior year) and not only does Speak take place in Upstate New York but Laurie herself graduated from my high school's rival high school.
I will definitely have to check out both Speak and now Fever 1793. I'm a big historical destruction fiction reader myself... ;)
Laurie is really awesome...she keeps an LJ, halseanderson. Speak isn't historical, but it's really good. I've actually read it twice, and there should be two reviews for it in my LJ memories. Definitely a good book to read.
She's working on another historical, too, about a freed slave in New York (I think).
Her book Twisted was also really good. And Catalyst, which I haven't read but own, takes place at the same Syracuse high school as Speak. =)
