I met with my thesis advisor today. She gave me a list of overhauls to make, and said that without them, I probably wouldn't pass. So naturally, even though I'm sure I can make those changes, I'm terrified I'm going to fail. And the amount of work that added to my load is not helping, considering how close to an anxiety attack I've already been ( Read more... )

YOU WILL KICK ASS!!!
Try thinking of the committee members as an entire team dedicated to helping you succeed. Their suggested revisions will only stengthen your thesis. Between that and your obvious motivation and dedication, you will do amazing! I know mid-April sounds soon, but it's also still an entire month away!!

That helps a lot. I keep thinking instead of the committee as a group of people who want me to fail, which is definitely hurting my confidence!!

*hugs* Thanks!

Thanks. Channeling my energy is totally what I need to do!! I need to find a deserted place and like, SCREAM!!! and then I can get thework done.

I definitely do well under pressure...without pressure, I'm not as motivated.

Thanks for the encouragement!

oh girly, remember to breathe. In and out... in a timely manner... My best friend who now lives far away went through this with her thesis as well. She did have to do an extra school session, and while that sucked... she finally defended and passed and got the job of her dreams all within like a week's timespan (it was CRAZINESS!)

You can do this. You really can.

Breathing...breathing...I actually came up with a good way to do it, this morning in the shower. I need to focus on each section of the paper as a mini paper. So instead of thinking fo the paper as a whole, just do each mini paper, which is less scary. Then when the mini papers are done, I'll have to bring it all together.

I CAN DO IT!

I know what you're going through right now, and believe me - I know how hard it is. That said, what has really helped me is making small goals for myself (which means my to-do list gets a lot longer, but I cross things off quickly). A goal for example could be - edit pages 1-15, edit footnotes on pages 1-30, etc.

I know that you can do this. My thesis adviser recommended that I 'replace sleep with caffeine' and I know it sounds really silly, but just push through now & you can relax later!

Good luck!

Small goals is the best idea. I'm going to focus on each subsection of the thesis as a mini paper, and just do one at a time. At least, just worry about one at a time!!

Good luck to you, too!

Being scared is a good thing because it means you have something to lose ~Grey's Anatomy

The way I see it... it's a good thing that you're terrified about failing because that will help you accomplish your goal. I really can feel your pain because I was going through the same thing before. That fear was the thing that got me through my last year of college and it was what put me in my classroom teaching my little kids everyday. I belieive that Fear shows you how much you really want something and it can be used as motivation to get everything done to accomplish your goal.

I know I've only read your journal for a little while... but it was so easy to see that you have a great passion for everything you are doing in your life. I believe you will make it through simply because you really want it to happen. I know you will get everything done... school, the wedding, honeymoon, and everything.

You're awesome. You'll make it through. I know you will.

Thanks...that was really nice and encouraging. And I agree, the fear of failure is going to be what makes me kick my own butt and get through it!!
