bottom up and not top down

I'm a big believer in the middle-out when it comes to conflict resolution. I think we can all agree that top-down doesn't work, it's limited by how few people are at the top and how few people they can communicate with. I think bottom-up is also limited because even though grassroots organization can be powerful it often runs into a problem when those at the top refuse to listen to the average person. Middle-out, though, allows for people to reach across lines (party, state, etc.) and communicate with their equals, so to speak, on the opposite side of any issue. They can also reach up and down and communicate with everyone. Obama and his supporters put a lot of stock in his grassroots, community organizer past but I honestly see him as using more of a middle-out approach.
