Effects:A lighthearted amusement and fondness
Warnings: None
[Dawn. A small mountain valley still half swamped in fog, with a group of
ShinRa Troopers plodding through it to reach a line of Chocobos. At their head is Zack, looking wide awake despite the ungodly early hour. He's also far too cheerful for this hour, as heard in his tone.]
Come on, guys! We've got a ton of ground to cover if we're gonna catch up with the General and his squad. Daylight's wasting!
[The troopers all groan, some still yawning as they tug on their helmets or fasten their weapons. There's a quick saddle check, and nearly every trooper gets onto his Chocobo without any trouble. However, there's one still on the ground without his helmet on, and Zack looks over at him.]
What's the matter, Cloud? Never ridden a Chocobo before?
[Cloud shakes his head, obviously embarrased and worried that he'll be laughed at for more than just his bird preening him like he's one of them, but Zack only grins.]
Guess I should start calling you Chocobo, huh Spike?
[This little "insult" has done it's job, and Cloud looks up, no longer looking quite so embarrased, and Zack laughs as he walks closer, ignoring Cloud's outcry of his name in order to come and stand beside Cloud. With some instruction, and no small amount of flailing, the two ShinRa men manage to get the Trooper up onto his bird. With Cloud situated and with little risk of falling out of his saddle, Zack turns to head back to his bird, easily mounting it.
Perhaps a little too easily, though; It's obvious within moments that Zack has used too much momentum to get up and he tumbles over the other side of the saddle, squeezing his legs in an attempt to catch himself. Unfortunately for the puppy, the chocobo has interpreted Zack's attempt at regaining his grip as the command to move forward, and it starts trotting down the path with Zack hanging out of the stirrup by one foot. The squad of troopers, all of them up on their birds, stare with wide eyes as their commanding officer gets dragged along for a bit before managing to get his foot free, falling to the ground with a rather heavy "thump" as he lands on his back.
But, hey, no worries. He's just fine, and by the time his chocobo has come back around to preen through Zack's hair, he's standing up and dusting himself off before looking up and around at his squad.]
And that is how you don't stay on a chocobo.
[The entire squad, Cloud included, laugh at that, and Zack grins. Mission accomplished.]
[It's still pretty dark as the feed ends, but it's obvious from the snickering that Zack is awake. A hand appears in the dim lighting to shut off the Dreamberry, but then it stops, going still as if something just caught Zack's attention. A second later the bedside light comes on, and it's possible to see Zack sitting up in bed, looking around his room. But there's nothing there, and he narrows his eyes, what little mako he has left making them glow in the shadows the lamp can't banish.]
What the hell was that?
[He glances down at the 'berry, then back around his room. Something's...definitely not right here.]
[Private Call to Cloud]
Hey, you doing okay out there?
