Nami, you all right?

...you know, I haven't done "story time" in a long while. I think I'll pick up from where I left off. [There's the sound of rustling pages, and then after a bit-] Ahhh, right. Now, I'm not as learned in Auldrant's history as some others from my world, so feel free to correct me if I'm wrong, anyone.

Cut for tl;dr )

...Is Melfes the only world that makes any sense? [says the girl living on the island-ship]

That could very well be the case!

Ah--uh. You heard that.

[Trying to move along before he can laugh at her mistake--] ...And it doesn't bother you?

No, why would it? Everyone is accustomed to their own world and its workings, so naturally any others would seem really weird.

Plus, I don't think I've seen you around before, so I'm going to assume that you're new and still adjusting. Unless, of course, I'm wrong and have just been very unaware.

...I guess so. [What is this logic thing you are using?]

No, I've only been here for a few days. ...Do you keep track of everyone here?

Not really. I just read a lot.

So, what's your name? I'm Guy Cecil.

What does reading--? Oh, I see.

My name is Fenimore.

A pleasure to meet you, Fenimore. I hope you're settling in as well as can be expected.

Nice to meet you, too. I don't know how well you expect people to settle in to being experimental subjects. It does seem less...dangerous than usual, though.

Well, the experiments you never quite get used to. It's more the company and the scenery, though.

What's less dangerous than usual, though? Are you used to things being hectic?

...Then I guess I am, mostly.

Not really, but--well, when you hear about experiments, you don't really expect getting your own house, right?

No, one usually doesn't. I guess that and the free food and clothing has to count for something.

Well, no. I don't think it's much of an even trade either.

Do you really? You don't seem too bothered by it.

I suppose I don't. I really try not to get too upset about it; I can be angry and rant and rage all I want, and that really won't change anything. I think I'd rather keep a clear, level head for times like these.

Plus, I've had quite some time to get used to this.
