I've never had absinthe (obviously.) It's banned everywhere in Europe apart from Britain. Just never took on. Us Brits prefer our lager, eh? I hear it takes off the top layer of the oesophagus, so you don't want to drink too much. Can you imagine throwing up your stomach acid, plus what, 80% alcohol? Eugh...painful.
Actually, absinthe was made legal last summer in the states due to political pressure from the EU. In several European countries it is made. And the EU is trying to unify the economic and manufacturing laws everywhere (Good for them).
Absinthe is strong, but you add a sugar cube and water to it. The water makes it change colors.
Absinthe is primarily flavored with anise. People love it or hate it. If that's your thing, try it.
Lager, obnoxiously popular here in the states. Thank gods for ales, though.
