This is exactly why it pisses me off when Europeans are like "Stupid greedy Americans, just bike! or walk! or take public transportation!" They have NO IDEA that our infrastructure is SEVERELY NOT MADE for this, in most places. No sidewalks, no bike racks, hell, even the drivers aren't used to bike riders. Most of them have no real idea what the hell the rules of the road are when bike riders are involved.

On the positive side, there is a chance that this recent gas price increase will make city developers and motorists start thinking about these issues. I know I look out for bike riders a lot more often than I used to (because of the simple fact that there are now more of them). Also, wtf is up with not having sidewalks on every street? I've been wondering that for years. People will always be walking for one reason or another. Please give them a place to do so safely. That should be mandatory.
