History
A long, long time ago (say 3,976 years before the fall of the Galactic Sith Empire), in a galaxy far, far away, war was beginning.
A race of warriors called Mandalorians invaded space controlled by the Galactic Republic, a peaceful coalition of planets that included several core homeworlds. The Republic was not prepared for such an attack, and it wasn't long before the Mandalorians, led by Mandalore the Ultimate, swept through the galaxy as victors. Many planets fell at their hands- infrastructures were shattered and economic failures were just as predominant as military ones as billions of sentinents found themselves homeless, jobless, and in many cases, victims of the Mandalorian blaster.
The Republic, struggling with constant defeat, sought outside help-- the Jedi Order.
The Jedi Order was a neutral, peaceful organization that served the galaxy as diplomats and protectors under the guidance of an omniscient power referred to as the Force - a presence that the Jedi believe connects all living things. However, despite their strict oath of pacifism, the Jedi were also trained to be warrior monks, the Force giving them uncanny abilities. Naturally, the Republic believed that they would side with them, that the Jedi would help the dying and protect the universe from the overbearing invaders.
They were wrong.
The Jedi Council voted against immediate action towards the Mandalorians, sticking to their creed and waiting for the Force to present an answer to this conflict.
While they waited, planets were falling.
A lone Jedi Knight dared to disagree with the High Council, to begin a call to arms of the Jedi to meet the Mandalorians in battle- to save the Republic.
That Jedi's name was Revan, and he, along with his close friend Malak, began recruiting Jedi Knights who opposed the Council's decision and wanted to join the Republic in their fight. Revan was quickly given control of Republic fleets and with his sound strategies and battle prowess, turned the tide of war against the Mandalorians.
And it was Revan who met and defeated Mandalore the Ultimate in battle, the catalyst of victory for the Republic.
The galaxy was saved.
Revan was a hero.
Riding on the triumph against Mandalore, Revan and Malak disappeared into Unknown Space, presumably in order to chase down and destroy the last of the Mandalorian fleets.
They vanished for five years, and in those five years the galaxy was in disarray. The Jedi Order held a noticeable rift between those who fought and those who stuck to the Code, while the Republic struggled to rebuild its war-torn planets. The shattered parts of the galaxy were vunerable, weak.
When Revan returned to the all but destroyed galaxy, he returned changed. No longer was he interested in protecting the galaxy, instead he wanted to rule it. Revan amassed those who had followed him into war against the Mandalorians, and turned his attention to overthrowing the Republic and replacing it with an Empire; the Sith.
War has begun again, and now the Jedi, the Republic, and the rest of the galaxy must decide where their loyalties lie.
With the Order and the Republic?
Or with Revan and the Sith?
