Heavy beta of one of 9X14's [Spoiler character] scene

Liked most of 9X14, but I think they really missed an opportunity to underline the possession issues in one crucial scene.

spoilery for 9X14 but not for anything else. )

I liked the scene as it was but it's eye for an eye justice underscores that they aren't nearly as sensitive to the possession issues as I wish they were.

Yeah, a little too on-the-nose and lacking in sensitivity and nuance for what SHOULD be a serious undercurrent at this point.

This would have been beyond awesome. They did miss a redemptive opportunity.

It made mrs train look worse, not better, that she was willing to kill a potential innocent in cold blood. Plus it was a chance for Dean and Sam to have a moment that was about possession, not their own hurt feelings.

Yeah, it made mrs tran look worse, not better to me. She was possessed! She knows! Arg.

Yes! That scene seemed like such a missed opportunity given how central possession is to the season. Plus, the degree to which the Winchesters have gotten comfortable with killing innocent people, even outside of a self-defense situation, really undermines their moral standing for me.

Yes. I thought it was very disturbing and in an "we the writers are oblivious and/or callous" kind of way, not an "how awesomely horrific" kind of way.

I don't know that I'd ever kill another woman's son in cold blood, if he were an innocent bystander, even if it meant revenging myself on someone who had done me great wrong.

Yeah, and I bet if you put it to the writers like that, they don't believe Linda would do it either. I honestly think they forget demons have vessels most of the time.

It's not like they ever seem to remember Jimmy Novak either...

This would have been perfect. Can you get hired as a show writer really quick???

Well, it's pretty easy to armchair quarterback this after the fact, but I really do wish they would at least consider trying exorcisms occasionally!
