Overheard in the Medford, Oregon Comfort Inn at the complimentary breakfast:

Speaker 1: Well, the dark age was caused by a volcano.

Speaker 2: Yeah, and that lasted 2 entire years.

Speaker 3: What was that volcano in the Philippines?

Speaker 1: Oh, yeah, uh Mount Pinatubo?

Speaker 2: Oh yeah, that's right.

Wow. Ok, I guess the 1991 eruption could be called a "dark age"... It's just not normally what I think of when I hear "dark age".

So how old were these people?

Yeah, it's tricky to fit this data into any single piece of history that I know of. Krakatoa (Indonesia though, not Philippines) certainly had some large explosions that briefly caused cooling around large parts of the world ... not related to the "dark age" ...

Well, I suppose it made things sorta dark, especially for those who saw lots of soot. And it was an anomaly against predicted climate models, used by many to prove global-warming-is-a-liberal-scare-tactic because ice ages happen naturally and all?
