Good Lord...

This was just priceless today:

Apparently my boss rec'd a call requesting voice lessons. Perfectly normal, right? Right. Then she heard the part of the message where the parent mentions their child is 3.5 years old.

There are no words. None.

I haven't heard of the show, but I'm guessing it's something to do with child pageants...*shudder*

I told my boss to let the mom we'll have to get back to her; our part-time Infant Voice Teacher is busy with her full-time Unicorn Wrangling job.

Here's a nice entry about "Toddlers and Tiaras": http://jezebel.com/5141201/toddlers--tiaras-pageant-dads-sexy-babies--creepy-judges

I bet that lady has one of these pictures of her kid. Who photoshops makeup onto a *baby*? (also, that is some bad photoshopping)

Those pictures are SO CREEPY. Their eyes freak me right out. I can't even imagine the trouble the girls who live this lifestyle deal with later in life.

That's so sad. Maybe direct her to a Music Together program or something?

Now, that's a good idea - I think part of the problem is that parents assume their kid's ability to carry a tune is extraordinary, when it is in fact, pretty commonplace. I've had plenty of parents insist little janie is some sort of musical prodigy when she's just a good mimic, like most kids are.

Sure - small children should be encouraged to sing and play with music, lots of them love it. It's just the idea that they need to be Trained that is upsetting.

Exactly - this idea of Training for a kid that age is what I take the most issue with. Especially when you factor in all the abstract thinking skills needed for voice.
