I have a bad habit of buying fabric that speaks to me, and then storing it indefinitely until I get around to using it. I'm pretty good at looking at a fabric and mentally designating it to a certain period/style. From that point on I have a very hard time looking at it with any other period in mind. Not dead set - mostly I'm thinking about the weight of the fabric. It's so light/sheer that I'm thinking it would be better in a different style.

What if you flatlined in something that had a bit of body, like taffeta?

Clearly I'm a silk snob, because it would never occur to me to put silk underneath cotton. But truth to be told, I have a silly amount of cream colored dupioni that I could use. My other bad habit is buying silk that is less than $4/yard even if I can't think of any reason to have it.

I have a polonaise in a very light semi-sheer silk taffeta. I flatlined the bodice in cotton and the skirts in silk organza and wear them over an opaque petticoat. It works just fine.
