Trim brainstorming...

I finally found a trim that is the right color for some fabric I bought AGES ago to make a robe a la Francaise. I got samples in the mail yesterday and this stuff is super thin, like 2-3 mm in width. So while the color is exactly what I want, I'm a little nervous that it won't be visible from a few feet away. Not to mention there's no way I could ( Read more... )

Can you double the trim to make it wider? I don't know about 18th century, but I know that was done in the 19th at the very least. Since the colors are perfect, a doubled row of trim might be enough to show.

I've been kicking that idea around....part of me loves that the trim is so tiny, because I think it'll keep everything light and fluffy visually...but man oh man, is it going to be interesting to sew. By hand.
