... Okay, look. Not everybody is into politics in the same way, and not everybody uses the same terminology as one another when discussing politics, and I don't have a problem with that as long as nobody is stepping on anybody else's neck in the process ( Read more... )

I don't think I've ever heard the term Social Justice Warrior. Hmm.

It's also commonly abbreviated to SJW. It seems to mostly be applied to people involved in social justice blogging on tumblr, and is usually accompanied by complaints about how feminists are being sexist against men, or how reverse racism is just as bad, or how heterophobia is a really big problem, etc etc until I puke.

Ahhh, I can't even tell you how much I agree with you and love this post. People like that think this stuff is just a game rather than our lives. I especially hate the ones that do the "but I'm only playing devils advocate" thing as if we haven't thought about this stuff before deciding it matters

Ugh yeah those people make me so angry. The particular person who inspired this post was of the "if we all hold hands and sing kumbaya then everything will be fine, but if you're angry then I won't hold hands with you. Don't you know you're alienating your allies?!?!" variety. Like, dude, if you're upset that women sometimes have conversations about how the patriarchy has hurt them and they are angry about it, and you don't like the fact that a social justice movement will not just extend greater rights to those currently without but also necessarily deprive you of certain kinds of privilege, then you are not the ally you think you are.

This guy was having a sad because OKCupid keeps matching him with women he describes as SJWs and they aren't interested in getting to know him because he's a cishet dude, and it's so unfair because he's a Nice Guy who is totally not racist or sexist or homophobic at all, ever. Ladies of OKCupid, I think you have dodged a bullet.
