Some goal setting, and more discussion of mental health

After what feels like a very long and guilty pause, I have finally caught up with the flist. I love that feeling of relief and satisfaction that being up to date on something brings ( Read more... )

I don't have any problems that actually require meds, so I'm afraid I'm no good to give an opinion about that, but I do have a similar problem with unfinished projects. I always start them and then it takes me forever to finish them... if I do.
I think your resolution of not starting anything else until you've finished what you've got is perfect. It might be difficult to stick to it, but it'll help get through a couple of projects and your motivation will boost a lot. :D

The scale of my unfinished project problem is getting pretty out of hand. I have entire crates full of half-made clothing and costumes and assorted other stuff, and a whole room full of fabric that I bought with projects in mind but never even got around to starting. Some of it has been kicking around for over a decade. One way or another, I have to sort this out!

I have ADD (self-diagnosed years ago and only recently "officially" diagnosed). I would like to be on meds (stimulants certainly help but there is only so much caffeine I can take) and feel I need them but there are so many hoops for me to jump through as a college student and they're all expensive. :-/ I have a meeting this week so maybe I will be prescribed a non-stimulant ADD med soonish.

Also, I wouldn't be able to function without a calendar. I plan in everything -- homework, studying, meals, feeding the cat, cleaning, laundry, shopping, as well as classes and meetings and such. I would forget pretty much everything otherwise.

I am useless without a calendar. If I don't keep mine up to date then my whole life just goes out the window!

Have you tried meds before? I hope your meeting goes well and you're put on something that works well for you.

The meds I used to be on for my anxiety and depression had a similar dulling effect on my ADD, but nothing like the miracle more targeted meds brought about. I used to hate that emotionally dead feeling too. If only effective treatment existed that didn't come with a list of side-effects as long as my arm...

Good luck if you do decide to switch.

I always feel guilty when I'm behind on the flist! I feel you on that.

I don't have ADD but I have a depressive personality and I'm :/ about medication. I've never tried any and I guess prefer to tough it out. There are downsides to that though.

Ugh I've only played D&D a handful of times but it's so fun! My friends and I are just super busy and nobody we know runs any games or anything so we'd have to find a group through meetup and lol who has the time
