When visiting her relatives in the "flyover" states, my mom starts developing a southern drawl. Er, midwest drawl. The weird thing is, I've caught myself doing it unconsciously a few times, despite not wanting to.
When I moved to NYC from Indiana in the 4th grade, I got teased mercilessly for my accent. Because of that I have tried to maintain my midwest neutral speech mannerisms as much as possible.
