Writing scripts is hard. I'm more used to improv - call me a Mike Leigh rip-off, but I just prefer it, y'know? It's difficult to write anything as realistic as, well, real life ( Read more... )

Well, sweetie, I can't say I've had writer's block before, since I'm not a writer, but I've had creative blocks before when coming up with choreography. Usually what I tend to do when that happens is just move and then, eventually, something comes to me that would be perfect for whatever I'm working on.

Writers do that, too, sometimes, don't they? Stream of consciousness stuff, I mean.

Really? Can't say I'm much of a dancer, but I don't suppose that was what you meant, eh?

Hee~ No, silly. Try just writing. Something completely random. It doesn't have to make sense or have anything to do with what you're writing. Eventually, you'll find something that works.

Yeah, that kind of works for prose, but in my experience this is a little harder- er, no offense or anything.

I have heard from some individuals that listening to music may help. However, that could only work if you are the type of person who can work with music in the background.

Oh, I guess that'd make sense. Huh, perhaps I can work on the soundtrack as I go.

May I ask if you are constructing an entire movie yourself?

Only a short one. I don't need to work alone, mind, but it means more thinking time and less needing to report to others.

I've put myself on a regiment where I must sit down in front of the computer with a Word document open for two hours every night at the same time. Even if nothing much comes out of it, you'll have at least a few good beats after editing. And, if you simply can't think of anything, you'll grow to hate staring at a blank page so much that you'll either be productive or go mad. I haven't quite driven myself to the latter yet, but I'm sure it can't be too long in coming.

If you've a good amount of discipline, this tactic should see you through a block.

Oh yeah, that could work quite well.

Hey, Aubrey, you're into acting, right?
