Homosexuality.  GAYYYYYYness.  Natural? Inborn? Learned? Adopted?...Chosen? Whatever you believe, if you use the Bible to back up your claim of immorality, your a git.  And I'm going to explain, just so people don't ask my why this is any more, why there is no such prohibition contained in the text of what the Jews call the Torah.

So let's begin ( Read more... )

A fine argument, although I was under the impression Zoroastrians were the first monotheists. It doesn't affect your argument either way, though.

Hmm....the Zoroastrians pursued monotheism within the bounds of a basically polytheistic greater culture...so it wasn't true monotheism as we know it. The same with Pharoah Ankhenaten and the worship of the "Aten." or sun disc. The greater cuture was still polytheistic, so it was monotheism only in name. But thechnically, you're right.

I like that you are so vocal about your beliefs! :)

Wasn't it Moses who did the whole 10 commandments thing? I think Abraham was long dead.

Also, in fairness, you might mention that Abraham is also viewed as the first follower of Islam by Muslims, although Islam itself didn't start until the 7th century A.D.

bahaahaahah omg!!! You're so right!!! What the fuck is wrong with me?! I just noticed as I was looking through it again...and I was like "Abraham?" Umm... yeah. I was having a discussion that morning about the near sacrifice of Abraham's son and I guess it stuck with me. Damn, you're right...G-d that was dumb. Anyways...but yeah, the first muslim thing is definately true. I don't feel that Muslims get enough cred, especially from the Jewish community. Wish I knew who you were...interesting you chose to remain anon. As for Abraham being long dead, we don't even know if they even really lived *shrugs*

You're totally right!

When I wrote my comment I thought, "What's the opposite of B.C.E.? ... A.D.! Geez, why don't they change A.D. too -- it would be just as offensive as B.C. was..." So I'm a little slow sometimes... :)

And by the way, I appreciate your discussions of [mis]translation. Mistranslations are really important and are like an invisible (and unrealized) barrier to most people's understandings. If people complain because you talk about that stuff, I completely agree with posting the "flip off" picture of the man with the undeterminable ethnicity. What a multi-culturally sensitive LiveJournal! ;)
