02 | Second Flame
[The first half is just for her records and is not readable. She’s found some unoccupied space in the apartment to write this. Not willing to risk a voice or video post being overheard. Thanks to Umi and Fuu, she now understands the device a bit more hence how she’s able to make this private.]
I can’t believe that it’s already been a couple of weeks since I arrived in The City. With everything that’s been going on… it’s felt more like a few days. I never thought I would be here so long, or here at all actually!
I wonder how everyone still back on Earth and Cephiro are doing. Konata told me that time kind of stands still there or at least when someone goes back-but I’m getting ahead of myself.
[There’s a brief pause as the girl tries to collect her thoughts]
- Eagle and I were engaged in battle first in Cephiro and then in the City. Once the fighting stopped I was able to reunite with Umi, Fuu, Clef, and Presea who had all arrived much earlier than myself… but I know I’d just left them to fight Eagle in Cephiro. I’m not sure how they could have beaten me here. Fuu says she’s been here for 5 months, but I know I’d seen her before that…
- I moved into the apartment. It’s a little crowded but it’s a relief to have some place to stay, especially with the others here. Tatra, Aska, and San Yung are also here… I’m still not sure what their intentions are but Tatra assures me that there’s no need to worry about her while we’re here. Once we return home…
- When I first posted to the device, several other inhabitants introduced themselves claiming that they’d met me before. That just isn’t possible. I would have remembered being here if I had been, wouldn’t I? Everyone seemed so sure. I’m wondering if… it was Nova. But why would she be telling everyone that she is me? The good news is she/that-girl seemed to have left a positive impression, and didn’t hurt anyone. Could this be the place where Nova is from? That sounds odd, but it is an alternate reality, and Nova is able to create her own alternate dimension….
- Eagle isn’t staying with us in the apartment. I feel concerned for his welfare but he’s too stubborn to listen to us.
- Umi and Fuu showed me how to work this thing. I think it’s for the best if .. if I don’t tell them everything just yet. I don’t want to worry them. I’ve noticed plenty of accidental transmissions… so.. I’m placing a piece of tape over the button so in order for me to post, I’ll consciously have to remove the tape to do it. I … I just need to work things out for myself.
That’s where things stand now. I have to get back to Cephiro… I can’t just leave things the way they are. Umi and Fuu were so happy to see me…. I …I don’t want to leave them again but what can I do? Umi and Fuu are waiting for me back in Cephiro too…..

Finishing with the device, Hikaru placed a small piece of tape over the on button. It simply wouldn’t do if she accidentally posted about her dreams, or her inner most thoughts. She could always put on a genuine smile and a brave face for the others. There was no need for them to be concerned with all of her troubles. With a slight sigh, she pushed herself off the box she’d been sitting on. This pantry was a little cramped… but she couldn’t risk anyone reading her entry.
For now, she tried to think of this trip to the City as a vacation. There was still so much to explore and do. Please wait for me…
Her hand found the doorknob and she slowly turned it. What lay on the other side surprised her. With a few blinks of her crimson eyes she exclaimed, “ A lawn gnome! Were.. you here before?”. She certainly didn’t recall having seen it before… and it was near the door, wouldn’t she have had to?
